I began painting in the late 1990's and am essentially self-taught. Born and raised near New York City, I have lived in San Francisco since 1980.  While the energy, art and grit of New York City influence my artistic spirit, I derive inspiration from nature, culture, travel and many other sources. 

 

I paint because I love the process rather than to create an end product.  The visual artists who have most influenced my artistic spirit are Diebenkorn, Hopper, DeKooning, Matisse, Derain, Van Gogh and Wolf Kahn.  My process is primarily spontaneous improvisation and I do not have a fixed style.
